The Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) covers all the important fields such as information, system, LSI, communication, radiowave technology, photonics, image processing, material science, medical electronics, etc.

What kind of Study?

Classroom Scene

The development of science and technology in the 20th century was supported by electronics. Electronics is a comprehensive and brilliant technology that elucidates novel nanophysics, creates functional devices and systems through sophisticated control of matter (electrons and photons) on the nanometer scale, and is still an emerging technology. Electronics undertakes a role of paramount importance to create a highly-networked information society in the 21st century as well. The EEE Department in Keio works on a wide range of technical/environmental issues to develop innovative devices, photonic devices, system LSI, systems, as well as their contribution to a vibrant society in the era of broadband information and communication network.

Educational Goal

Electronics should actually be fundamental to the development of innovative technologies in the 21st century, as represented by artificial intelligence, and ultra high-speed, massively-parallel computers. The goal of the education in the EEE Department is to develop human resources who can pioneer Electronics. To this end, new material science, ultra-microscopic process technologies, accurate device control, and application technologies can be acquired in a comprehensive manner. Furthermore, high adaptability can be fostered by personal tutorial system so that students shall be leading light in whatever areas they get a position after graduation.


The curriculum is well organized so that a good educational foundation can be acquired in fundamental academic fields such as material science, quantum engineering, electromagnetics, circuit, measurement, information and communications engineering. Courses are categorized in three featuring areas: electronic materials, photonics and waves, and circuit/information systems. Experiments and exercises are count for learning computer literacy and software development. Some national exams such as those for licensed electric engineers are exempted by credits of prescribed courses. The process of research study can be learned in the graduation thesis under the guidance of internationally highly-appraised professors.

Career Options

More than 80% of the EEE undergraduates who graduated from the EEE Department went on to the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Keio University. Employment conditions are excellent. The great many offers of employment to the students whose major is EEE come from a huge variety of business categories. For the past few years, nearly half of the graduates found brilliant positions in globally well-known electrical/electronics or mechanical manufacturing industries. Fifteen percent of the students joined utility companies (electrical power, gas, communication and transit companies) and another fifteen percent of the students entered information service companies.
