Multi-Antenna Communications: Fundamental Limits, Coding, and Applications

講義内容:

This four-day tutorial course provides an overview of the theory of multi-antenna (MIMO) communication, from fundamental limits to code designs. We start by recalling the preliminaries and basic notions of digital communications and information theory, before introducing the fundamental limits of MIMO channels. Then, we explain how to exploit the potential diversity and multiplexing gains provided by the MIMO channel, using space-time transmission (coding) schemes. Performance analysis in terms of probability of error will be shown and the construction criteria will be introduced. Algebraic construction of universal coding scheme will be presented. At last, decoding algorithms for MIMO systems will be presented.

 

First day (Preliminaries, Capacity)

 

Morning (2 hours)

Basic notions of digital communications, information theory

Deterministic MIMO Channel: capacity, spatial multiplexing, waterfilling

Afternoon (2 hours)

Fading MIMO channel: ergodic capacity, outage, diversity

Non-Coherent MIMO channel: training vs. Grassmannian packing

 

Second day (Transmission and Optimal Tradeoff)

Morning (2 hours)

Performance analysis

Diversity Codes

Afternoon (2 hours)

Multiplexing Architecture

Diversity-multiplexing tradeoff

 

Third day (Code Constructions and Decoder Design)

Morning (2 hours)

Approximately universal codes: criterion

Code construction with algebraic number theory

Afternoon (2 hours)

Linear receiver structure: zero-forcing, MMSE

Non-linear receivers: sphere decoder, lattice reduction-aided decoder

 

Fourth day (Application: Relay Networks)

Morning (2 hours)

Single-hop relaying networks: relaying schemes

Linear relaying: optimal strategies and code construction

Afternoon (2 hours)

Multi-hop relaying networks

Distributed relaying schemes
