The International Symposium on Double Degree Program 2008 was successfully ended.

 

The International Symposium on Double Degree Program 2008, which was held with the subsidy “Program to Enhance International Standing of Higher Education in Japan” by MEXT and also joint-hosted by Tohoku University, concluded with success as well as positive reception from attendees of 100 people gathered from home and abroad despite typhoon-generated rain.

 

Since 2005, The Faculty of Science and Technology at Keio University has launched the Double Degree Program with Intergroupe des Ecoles Centrales, France, and in 2007, Keio became a member university of the T. I. M. E. Association, a network of over 50 leading engineering schools and technical universities. At the Symposium, personnel in charge of Double Degree Exchange were invited from T.I.M.E. member institutions as presenters; Domestic institutions were Tohoku University and Doshisha University; European institutions were, 5 Ecoles Centrales with which Keio is in association with for the Double Degree Program, and those from Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain - and of course, the T.I.M.E. Associates itself. Delegations of Double Degree exchange students from both Keio and the Ecole Centrale de Lyon also drew attentions as they did their presentations. The Symposium started with an address of welcome by Toshiaki Makabe, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology of Keio, and followed presentations by the Head of Interntaional Center, Professor Shinnosuke Obi, then the Ecoles Centrales, the Double Degree exchange students, Tohoku University and Doshisha University.

 

The Afternoon session was begun by T.I.M.E. Association, then followed by Technische Universitat Munchen, Politecnico di Milano, Kungliga Tekniska Hogskolan, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Technische Universitat Dresden, Lunds Tekniska Hogskola and Politecnico di Torino. The highlight of the Symposium was the Panel Discussion during which in-depth discussion was carried out actively. Reception was held in the evening. Greeted by Tetsuya Sakamoto, The Vice President of Keio University, all attendees enjoyed the get-together in amiable and relaxed atmosphere.
